Opening Session: Facing Adversity with Optimism and Resilience

As we come together for this year’s Opening Session we will celebrate a year of resilience, perseverance and hope. Join MSCA chair Mike Star as he welcomes conference attendees to an amazing week of connecting, learning, discovering, rejoicing, and friendship. Hear from wounded U.S. Army veteran J.R. Martinez who, while deployed to Iraq, hit a roadside bomb and became trapped in his burning vehicle. As a living example, he will remind us that resilience shows up in the world in many different ways. J.R.’s story is certain to inspire and uplift everyone. With a message of hope, optimism, and resilience, Martinez will remind us that a combination of gratitude for what we have and a commitment to reaching for what we want, despite current circumstances, are the building blocks for a better tomorrow.
